Taking ACT in December

I have been preparing for SAT the last few weeks, however, I'd like to try ACT first in December and then take SAT in January. I have the following questions in that regard.

Is preparing for SAT good to enough for ACT ?

If not, what additional prep is reqd ?

I'm pretty decent at math and okay at english.

Is taking ACT with writing considered better than ACT - no writing ?

if ACT writing different form SAT writing?

I currently get 2300+ in SAT practice tests, does that equate to a good score in ACT.

Please advise.

The tests have many differences and taking SAT practice does not prepare you for the ACT like taking ACT practice tests.

Depends on individual but taking a study course with practice tests is usual method.

There is no question

Taking ACT with writing is required by a large number of colleges including most of your high ranks (UChicago may be the only exception of the high ranks which accepts ACT w/o writing). If any of the colleges to which you are applying requires the writing then you should take it.

It has its own essays which are usually different from the SAT essays and own scoring method but preparing to write essays is a similar process.

You cannot assume you will actually get that score on SAT much less a similar one in ACT. Nevertheless for those who take both tests it is more common to find applicants scoring in the same percentile ranges on both tests and than to find significant differences. However, many do have significant differences in scores between SAT and ACT.

I plan to practice for a couple of hours for about 2 weeks and take the ACT in December.
