Hello!
I’m a sophomore who is currently attending high school in the outskirts of Los Angeles County. I’ve been considering applying to West Point, but I can’t find any counselors or teachers who seem to know a lot about the admissions process for the military academies (very few students at my school pursue the military so I suppose that this makes sense). One of them offhandedly suggested that taking the ASVAB (Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery) and doing well might look good on an application, but I’m not sure this is true.
From what I’ve gathered so far, West Point requires either an SAT or ACT score for admission. The ASVAB isn’t required, it’s not even mentioned on the USMA website (from what I’ve seen so far).
Would it be a waste of time to study for it? My school lets juniors take the ASVAB for free in the winter months, and I certainly want to study for it if it would improve my chances of getting in.
Thank you!
