Would this be a waste of Early Action?

Hey! My question is regarding the Harvard single choice early action. I know that even though I have a good profile, Harvard is a long shot for everyone. However, I have a legacy at Harvard (step parents count, right?), so I feel like this will be wasted if I don’t apply early.

So my dilemma is apply to only Harvard early with legacy, or apply early to a range of safeties and reaches but not Harvard. Is the chance boost of SCEA + legacy significant enough that I should apply early to only Harvard, or is it not worth it?

Thanks for the help!

Note that, unless they changed to policy, you may still apply EA to state schools while applying SCEA.

If you’re a viable Harvard SCEA applicant (based on GPA/Transcript/test scores) then you’ll get a bunch of accepts from your safeties and maybe some other reaches. If you’re viable and H is your 1st choice, I’d apply to them SCEA. If you’re only in the pack or H isn’t your 1st choice, then apply to multiple non-restrictive EA pgms.

  1. Do you want to go to Harvard?
  2. What is your GPA/SAT scores? If you are 4.0/2400 then yes, go for it. If you are 3.5/1800 with no amazing ECs, then yes, it is a waste.
