Would this be an acceptable reason for a Why College essay?

I'm hoping to transfer next year, mainly to LACs. One of those is Vassar, a place known for its liberalism, which I consider a plus because I myself am fairly liberal. I'll be coming from a college that has a noticeable conservative air to it in a conservative city. While I can see both types in both colleges, I can't exactly "spread my liberal wings" in my current college, but I can definitely see myself doing so at Vassar.

Should I include this reason when writing the Why Vassar essay? Or would this reason come off as too big of a generalization of Vassar and perhaps make me seem bigoted?

One question: aren’t there other LACs that can let you “spread your liberal wings”? What makes Vassar different from them?

That reason isn’t my main one for choosing Vassar; I’m just wondering if it’s worth it to even mention liberalism as one of the reasons. My Why essay isn’t gonna center around the liberalism.

As liberalism isn’t something unique to Vassar, I wouldn’t even mention it. “Why” essays require a bit of investigative work on the part of the applicant to make them specific to a school. For example, you should look through Vassar’s course catalog and find 2 or 3 classes that you would looooooove to take if admitted and specifically mention those classes in your “Why” essay. Are there professors that you want to study with at Vassar? If so, mention them. Is there a major that Vassar offers that other colleges do not? If so, mention it. You should also look into Vassar traditions – things freshman, sophomores, juniors and seniors do during their time at school that you would like to participate in and mention those in your essay. The more specific your reasons for wanting Vassar, the better your “Why” essay will be.

^Thanks. I have many SUPER-specific reasons for wanting Vassar (including those that you’ve listed), so the liberalism would just be one of those tiny things if I ever decided to include it. Looking back, though, I guess I shouldn’t risk it because I never know who will read my application.
