Ok, so for Financial Aid stuff for colleges I know I'm going to have to submit the CSS Profile for them and that if your parents are seperated you can file for a non-custodial parent waiver so that their income isn't included in what you can pay (hence increasing the fin aid given). My mom (non custodial parent) makes minimum wage and is currently facing a felony charge that will either result in prison time or a steep fine. Do you think that most colleges would consider this an acceptable reason for submitting a non-custodial parent form waiver? I should also mention that I have limited contact with my mother, meaning I talk to her once a week (phone call), sometimes less.

I"m not an expert with this, but the non-custodial form is for when no contact can/has been made with a parent in a significant amount of time. Your mother can go ahead and fill out the form and her income/situation should not be anything against you.

@crazymomster, thanks for pointing out the contact thing.
