Would you change your major to get into the college of your choice?

I plan on majoring in Accounting and sitting for my CPA exam. However, I may not able to get into the school I want to. The University of Minnesota- Carlson School of Management is VERY competitive. So competitive that I doubt I will be getting in. Is it possible to major in something else and still become an Accountant? I was considering getting my B.S. degree in Economics. This major is in their Liberal Arts college, which is not as competitive. I enjoy economics also, but of course I would choose Accounting over it. What would you do if you were me? Other schools in my state I am just not interested in, and/or they are too far from home.

I will be a transfer student. The other schools that I would like to go to are out of state, and my family is not able to afford the out of state tuition.
