Would you have went through all the trouble of applying to a higher-ranked school, or stayed at Chicago? I'm a current student and just wanted to know if anyone else applied for transfer into higher ranked schools.

Chicago’s pretty friggin highly ranked as it is.

seriously, there are only seven colleges ranked higher than chicago.

Yeah…I’m not sure it’s worth the trouble. It would be like transferring from Stanford to Harvard…Why bother? I guess you could argue that most of the schools ranked higher than UChicago are more internationally or nationally well-known, but keep in mind that UChicago has been on the rise in terms of prestige as of late.

I am really puzzled by the reason for transfer. If it’s a fit and personal preference issue I can understand, such as a desire to go to school with more sports related school spirit, less structured core requirements, far more active social scene, a parent who is ill and the desire to stay close to home etc.

But for higher RANKED school??? Let’s see… On USNWR, it’s Harvard, Yale, Princeton, Stanford, MIT, CalTech, Penn that are higher ranked than Chicago. In some other ranking systems, Chicago is actually higher ranked than most of even these. Since you came to Chicago to begin with, you are not an engineering major, so take MIT and CalTech out. Outside of Wharton, other Penn majors are not higher ranked than Chicago majors.

That leaves basically HYPS. If I remember correctly, Harvard and Princeton don’t even take transfer students. So, what you are aiming for transfer for a BETTER ranked school, it’s Yale or Stanford. I believe they take astronomically small percentage of transfer applicants. You would have had to walk on water getting close to 4.0 with amazing EC and other stories to be accepted as a transfer student to these schools.

But if you are that successful at Chicago, you are amazingly well positioned for any kind of post graduation options: both professional and academic. Weigh that against the disruption, headache, and overhead of starting at a new school. On top of that, consider the recent picture: Chicago is definitely getting a lot of momentum. Assuming you are a freshman, Chicago’s stock value will be much higher by the time you graduate due to the surging popularity and rapidly increasing selectivity.
To be honest, this is the most unreasonable and illogical reason for transfer I have ever heard.

Do you know what I am getting at?

What about the LAC’s
