Title says it all.

Througout high school I have always been interested in biology and I loved keeping up with econ news.

My reasons for wanting to major in Econ: If I do not get into med school, I will become a financial consultant (a job I believe I can excel at since my family + some family friends have had careers as risk managers, advisors, brokers, etc). If not excepted into med school, I feel that a major in biology can land me at most a research job.

Wondering if there is anyone here who can share his/her or others' experiences and give advice as a premed majoring in Economics?

I would only recommend being an econ major if you have a passion for it and truly enjoy it. Just because you feel it can provide you a solid career as a backup is not sufficient. Enjoyment goes beyond keeping up with the econ news.

Of course, just being interested in biology is not enough to warrant being a physician either.

Hate to rain on your business economics parade, but the economy's not doing too well right now.

Major in what you enjoy for the future. Econ is a good stepping stone for bus school. If you enjoy it, ok for med. They will ask why you chose it.

Perhaps do bio with minor in econ

To BRM : Acknowledged

To GS: Though the economy is not doing well, I think it will not have too much of a significant impact on econ major based jobs 4-5 years from now? The number of investors will probably start going back ot normal levels again.

To PD: Acknowledged

BDM probably has some insights on this too...
