Would you want to learn Chinese?

Hi,All
There are more and more people in the world start to learn Chinese. Is it really useful?
As a college student, should I master not only English but Chinese? Do you actually hear about one of your friends try to learn Chinese?

YES! It’s been my dream and biggest regret for years, I AM going to learn it in college.

Thank you. I am now really happy because I know a little bit Chinese.

Hi Amy,

Chinese (Mandarin) is a hot language to learn now here in the U.S. I know of several local high schools and elementary schools that have added a Mandarin program here in the last few years. Good luck!

Interested. Not worth in putting the effort to learn how to correctly pronounce the tones, though.

It’s certainly useful. However, I wouldn’t bother unless you intend on going to China: Chinese is too difficult to spread like English and most business people will know English anyway.

In center of the global market is slowing shifting from the west to the east, so it certainly won’t hurt if you know Mandarin!

My daughter took a year of Mandarin at college, she had always been curious about it. She was happy to have done it. Her school gave a very intense first year program with 5 teachers, on for writing, one just for pronounciation tutoring sessions. I find she can converse with people, but I’ve got no clue as to the level of the conversation.

I’m fluent in Mandarin, but one of my friends at UCLA is taking his second year of it. He’s picking up the language really quickly! I think if you have the drive to learn, it would really beneficial.

It would be beneficial to know. If your intent is to pursue a career in business, it might serve as a benefactor.

Wow ^^
Really? It’s really good. Thank you.

How to pronounce Mandarin is really a little bit difficult.

Thank you. :)

Yeah, there are lots of business people will know English.

Wow, your daughter must be a hard-working student. If you want to know your daughter’ level of the conversation, you can try to let your daughter to talk with a Chinese.

It is not easy for a foreigner to picke up the language quickly. Your friend is really smart.

I am not interested in business, and I want to be a teacher in the future.

I studied Mandarin in college and it was a challenge to be sure but a very enjoyable one. I highly recommend Mandarin. That or Hindi if you’re looking for languages with the most utility in the 21st century…

Okay. Thanks. It is difficult? 你學多久了?

Also, there are too many people who speak both fluently that your speaking Mandarin will not even make you more attractive, even if you’re pursuing a career in business.
