Wow, our valedictorian got rejected from Brown

Our valedictorian got rejected from Brown with a perfect 4.0 GPA, taking very tough courses. Our highschool was ranked in the top 20 by US News and World Report. Her SATS were perfect 800 in math and 665 in verbal and 700 something in writing, and she got rejected from all the ivies that she applied to.

I think if verbal and writing went up 50 points it would have been a different story.

Your Val and many others.........

665?

One of our vals got rejected to every top tier school minus Harvard and Williams.

It was no surprise! My son is the valedictorian at a magnet school that was ranked in the top 15 by Newsweek. He has an unweighted 4.0 GPA (weighted 6.9 something), SAT I 790m, 760v, 720w and SAT II, math 2c 800, biology mol 770, and chemistry 730, and he is also an IB Diploma candidate. He has taken 8 AP and 2 IB tests and will take 2 AP and 4 IB tests next month. He spent the last two summers doing research in a university and has over 400 community service hours. He is caption of a varsity team. However, he was rejected by Harvard and Princeton, wait listed by Yale and Brown, and only accepted by Cornell and UC Berkeley. I guess being an Asian hurt him. All I can say is that admissions at the ivies are simply unpredictable. They tend to admit people who suit their needs.

Your friend only got into Harvard and Williams??? That's weird.

I know, right? He applied to practically every Ivy. Only got into Harvard.

I say it's rather fitting, no matter how queer.

Our val got into Harvard SCEA then put out all of his apps that he had started and they probably finished really half-assed. I think he got into UF, rejected from Yale and Princeton, waitlisted at Cornell, and Tufts withdrew his app when he mentioned to his interviewer that he got into his first choice (Harvard). Seriously, they involuntarily withdrew his application, he got a letter saying they withdrew his application for that reason. Good ol' Tufts.

So is he going to Harvard or Williams?? Have you definitely decided on Brown??

It happens all the time. The valedictorian the year before me got into Harvard but was rejected from Yale... everyone has a story like that. Brown's admissions officers probably thought he just wouldn't be a good fit here.

A valedictorian friend of mine got into HYP but rejected at Brown. Interestingly, Brown was her first choice by a longshot.

There will always be so many not accepted to these schools, and with the crezy number of apps this year, who can possibly be sure of anything.

My Daughter is valedictorian. 2150 SAT 780 Lit 750 US History. 2 jobs,
360 hours of Community service, 8 years of 4-H, academic decathlon, National Honor Society, student mentor program. First generation college student. Waitlisted @ Brown, waitlisted @ Columbia, waitlisted @ Amherst, waitlisted @ Pomona, rejected @ Yale after deferral, accepted @ UC Berkeley, accepted @ UCLA, accepted @ Colgate.

Well..I was salutarian at my class...Had a 2100 in SAT 1, a 2170 in SAT 2 (750, 750, 710). I got into Brown with pretty good financial aid (National Scholar yay). Considering UPenn as well though...

OH, and I'm Asian!

Mikey, he's going to Harvard.

And I'm definitely going to Brown... my second choice would be Williams, though. My best friend is going there (the val is one of my best friends too, the three of us all got early writes to Williams).

But Brown is amazing. And perfect.

I'm one of my class's three vals and I was waitlisted at Brown, my first choice.

Greatguru, Asians belong at Penn :D

You study at Penn, JohnnyK!?

I'm leaning towards Brown, by the way :D

Of course I study @ Penn. I wouldn't have it any other way.

(though if I couldn't be at Penn, I imagine Brown would be fairly high up on my list!)

haha i'm valedictorian with a perfect act score and i got rejected from brown
