Is there anyone who has dates for A-Day and PPW for class of 2012? I cannot find these on the website, and they may not have been determined yet. Thanks!

From what I've read on Plebe-net, no dates have been finalized.

If you haven't already signed up, this is an excellent resource for accurate information; a place that you can ask questions, or just read other people's questions and also the answers. The moderators are excellent and if they don't know the answer, they know where to get it.

Prospective Net

Prospective-net is for candidates. Plebe-net comes next for the new cadets and plebes, with Parent-net once the plebes become yearlings (yuks).

This has been a blessing to us parents!!! I highly recommend it!!!

thanks for this info on prospective net, i am going to subscribe. :)

According to prospective net, there are no dates yet for A-Day and PPW. The rumor is that Beast will be extended to 12 weeks. (Just kidding, honestly!) :D :D

Living in the south has some great benefits: i.e: today is in the 60's, school gets out in May, so there's a month off before R-day. However, because we get out so early, we return in August. While most parents can show up at A-day toward the tail end of summer vacation, extending beast has us already in school. I'm just trying to figure out how much time off from teaching I'm going to be able to wrangle for next year! I don't want to miss anything, yet I wonder if it's possible to "do it all," living 1000 miles away....

If parents are within 2-3 hours of flight time to Newburgh, White Plains or New York, it is possible to attend A-Day without taking a day off. A-Day will be on a Saturday morning, probably near the middle of August. Last year PPW went from Friday - Sunday near the middle of October; so many East Coast parents could get by with taking only one day off for that...having said that, it is much less tiring to arrive at least one full day before A-Day and PPW begin...if you can afford the time.

I have the time...but hubby and I both teach at the same school, and try not to antagonize the principal by being off too much...but looks like he'll just have to get over it! ;)

R-Day, A-Day and PPW are among the best experiences and memories so many West Point parents have. They are each different and have their own reasons for being special. And it's great for the cadets to have their parents attend.

That said, it's impossible for all parents to attend all events. Distance, cost, other family responsibilities, and more can be priorities. No parent should think their plebe will be ignored (certainly won't be on R-Day ;)) during A-Day and PPW weekends. Other families will "adopt" your cadet for a meal or a weekend.

Now, if you can attend only 1, then I'd suggest what I believe many others will suggest, PPW. You'll have more time with your cadet and you'll have an opportunity to see parts of West Point that you won't be able to at other times. You'll have time to meet your cadet's friends and faculty members, attend classes, dance at a hop, eat in the Mess Hall, see their room in the barracks (be prepared for one of the ultimate shocks when you see how clean the room is), get a tour of the Supe's house, and so much more.

Way back in 2005, I thought I'd save a day and flew out the morning PPW began. I was late. There are some events that begin first thing in the morning. And I missed going to classes - although attended the open houses held by the academic departments the next day. So, I'll suggest that if you can get to PPW, plan on arriving the day before it starts.

Also, keep in mind that the big weekends for parents are front-loaded so to speak. Until graduation, there are no weekends that are planned events including parents. There will be times you'll want to visit and certainly will be able to do so, and the big productions are only kinda, sorta open for parents - just not meant at all for them. So, if you're attending all 3 plebe events within 4 months, that'll be about it for a few years. Maybe employers will take it a bit easier if they know that up front.

I agree with MOT that PPW is a "don't miss" event, but if at all possible - go to A-Day. Watching my daughter being accepted into the Corps of Cadets is a once-in-a-lifetime memory. It was fantastic! My eyes weren't the only ones that kept leaking. lol

It is also an opportunity to be there for your cadet after they completed a grueling Beast and Reorgy week. I was able to help her get her boodle box and boodle, take her off post for awhile (which she really seemed to appreciate), and she was able to have some much needed down time. My usually confident, don't-mess-with-me daughter actually let me pamper her.

I flew out the following Monday, so I could spend as much time with her on Sunday as I could. They had to report back by 7 pm. I stayed for the Band Concert at Trophy Point at 7:30 pm, and totally enjoyed it.

My parents are looking into the future and they aren't sure how they're supposed to plan their vacation time. If any dates are finalized, I'd be appreciative if someone would post them soon. My mother is supposed to have her vacation time planned out through the end of the year ASAP.

Inhibitor, just as soon as the dates are finalized the moderators on Prospective.net will post them...both you and your parents can sign up for this service. The link was previously posted on this thread by wonderful wpmom2011... :)

You can also check the master calendar yourself periodically at United States Military Academy at West Point by clicking on the "search/reference" link and then the "Master Calendar..." link. The USMA /USCC labeled events on the master calendar refer to the Corps of Cadets calendar events.

I was notified of the Class of 2011 A-Day date on 2/22/07. I hope this helps make the waiting a little easier!

Tried the Master Calendar prior to posting, but alas I found no dates.

Anyone know anything about a clergy weekend? My pastor said I should invite him to the Academy when they have it. I have no clue what he was refering to.

First post from an '09 cadet - hello everyone.

The chief of the Department of Military Instruction informed us of several changes to the summer training program. Most relevant to all of you is the news that Beast is being extended one week to seven total weeks, not including REORGY week. Looking at my calendar, that means that the Marchback will occur on 11 August with R-Day falling on Monday, 30 June. School should be starting up on 18 August.

This is not yet official, so I'll post more when I learn more.

why don't you tell them to extend it a little further, to make A day over Labor Day weekend..much more convenient for parents... =)

qmechanoid,

Just looking at the dates you give, I'm confused. Last year, R-Day was July 2nd, Marchback was Aug. 13th and A-Day was Aug. 18th, with classes starting Aug. 20th.

The dates you give are very similar, so I'm not understanding where the extra week of Beast will fit in. Am I just not getting it?

There's still nothing on the WP calendar...am trying for insider info w/ the coach, but so far no go...

My understanding is that the dates have not yet been finalized. When they are, I'm sure the calendar will be updated and the new dates will be published on prospective.net

Typically, Plebes use Labor Day weekend to use their first semester pass. They will be able to get away from post, take their uniforms off, and relax after the trials of beast and reorgy week. Some east coast cadets return home for the first time as West Pointers while others opt to go with several classmates to NYC for the weekend..... Labor Day is a huge weekend for plebes.

My mistake in the dates. The way they are breaking up the summer training period is changing. Actually, if my count is correct, R-Day will still be on 30 JUN, but A-Day will be shifted back a week to the 23rd. The following weekend would be labor day weekend, an interesting situation because Ring Weekend for '09 falls on that weekend as well, if it's still going to be the week after REORGY week finishes.
