WPI C'2022 EA1

Hang on tight @brocksmith225. Wishing you luck!

I received my admissions decision and I was quite surprised!

I am a mixed race (African American/White), 17-year-old male. My stats are:

  • SAT: 1270 Total (670 Evidence-Based Reading/Writing), (600 Math)
  • Unweighted GPA: 3.96
  • Weighted GPA: 3.98
  • Tons of leadership positions and ECs.

I was surprised that I got accepted at all. But I was flabbergasted when I also received a $130,000 Presidential Scholarship ($32,500 per year).

I originally thought I would be denied. Now I have such a difficult decision to make.

If you have any questions, I’ll be happy to answer them.

Almost the exact same stats (3.97 UW 4.46 W, #3 in his class 1530 SAT many leadership/captain) and EC’s as my son and he also only got $10 per year. There seems to be a huge disparity.

Son accepted 22,000/ year presidential scholarship:
3.824 uw gpa, 1480 SAT (790 math), top 10 cr, RI HS math student of the year, math team captain, president & founder FIRST robotics at HS, national honor society, national honor society, varsity VB, winner of $25,000 Samsung solve for tomorrow competition, RI Chemical society 2016 contest winner. WPI his first choice. Will attend. Just wanted to give some context re: scholarship money. Hope this helps

Also 9 AP Classes (all 4’s & 5’s so far)

Also 9 AP Classes (all 4’s & 5’s so far)

@miscparentname Son got accepted with $35.5K a year Presidential scholarship. 35 ACT, 4.0 GPA, 800 on Physics and Math 2 SAT subject tests, lots of leadership and 3-sport athlete. Sustained and significant contributions to school community. NMSF and National Hispanic Scholar. Competitive rower (hoping to row there). Also URM, not sure if that makes a difference or not.

@DancingwithStars Can I join the GroupMe too?

@dancingwithstars - I would like to join the chat too please

Stupid question - what’s EC and URM?

EC: Extracurricular
URM: Underrepresented minority

Hi, @deebmc my son got $10k a year - very similar stats etc. He’s very excited. Presidential scholarships are a component of financial aid so it’s impossible to make much sense of the scholarship money without the full pic.

I was accepted with a $37k/year presidential scholarship as well as a $5k global scholarship. I’m a black female. Stats: 3.89 UW GPA; 4.811 W GPA; ACT of 29; Salutatorian; in numerous clubs;

@DancingwithStars How do I get into this group chat?

Interesting - S deferred to RD. ACT 35 (SS 36) but GPA 3.5. Math2 SAT 800. A little surprised because we thoughtt this would be an admit. Accepted into his first choice already so it’s all OK. Congrats to all accepted.

I would love to join!

daughter accepted. GPA 3.7 UW, 4.2 Weighted, 1380 SAT, from the top Washington state HS, captain of gymnastics team, top national prize on charity work she’s done. 37K a year.
