My daughter has a classmate whose merit award was not on the portal, and then the scholarship letter arrived in mid-January (for the Dec 20 admit decisions). So don’t assume you won’t get an award just because it’s not on the portal now. Congrats to those who got good news yesterday!
My daughter was accepted yesterday (Presidential Scholarship!!)
@dmg2021 What are her stats?
Accepted with a 28k presidential scholarship >:D<
Stats
New SAT: 1490( M:770, W+R: 720) Essay: 24/24
SAT 2: Physics 770
Math II: 760
AP SCHOLAR with honors
GPA: 94.44 in the US only
(I attended a pretty rigorous high school in Viet Nam so my previous GPA was not that good…)
So happpyyyy~~~
@honeyhippie I don’t remember exactly but her SAT’s were near perfect (the new SAT format). She is in the top of her class, Senior year classes are 4 AP classes and 1 honor class her senior year).
Can someone create a GroupMe for accepted students and put the link in here?
It alreas exists: https://app.■■■■■■■■■■■/join_group/28792813/FnQQxT
To anyone who hasn’t seen mention of merit scholarships on their portal with their acceptance, I applied EA1 and was in the same situation. With my acceptance, there was just the message saying that merit scholarships are granted periodically. A few weeks later when I got my financial aid package, though, there was a 29k/year presidential scholarship with it and that was then uploaded to my portal later. Just be patient because you still might get plenty of money in the coming weeks. Good luck!
Anyone received their fin aid update yet? I was told that they were unable to give me any fin aid…
@Meticulously53 I have, two separate scholarship offers from WPI with different amounts. Might sound a little greedy but I want more
I got selected for the WPI Global Scholars Program
Congratulations @IamINTP - is WPI your top choice?
I wonder how they calculate the scholarships. People have been putting “Presidential” but it’s all different amounts and the stats for some of the larger ones are not in line with others. HMMMM.
I had a 34 ACT and 3.6 UW GPA. WPI gave me a pretty generous need-based aid package but gave me 0$ in merit scholarship. Is there any way I can get more/anything out of them? WPI has been one of my top choices, however, I can’t afford it with no merit money. On emailing admissions, I was told all merit money has been given out. (I applied EA 2 btw)
Schools have budgets. When “merit” awards are made they are very competitive.
Look at the financial aid package you have been awarded and see if it already has a work study component to it. Students who do not already have work study might be able to work 10 to 15 hours per week while in school next fall IF they can find you an on-campus job. See https://web.wpi.edu/offices/hr/student-jobs.html and email financial aid at finaid@wpi.edu with a clear statement of your problem.
@luckyme123 You mention that you have 2 separate scolarship offers from WPI. Can you be more specific? I have only seen one identified scolarship per individual…e.g. Presidential
@chel17 I received merit money and a specialty scholarship titled “WPI Global Scholars”
Hey guys!
I applied RD. Do any of you guys know if we really have to wait until April 1, or will we hear back before?
@Yorkie1 I looked at past WPI RD discussions and it looks like decisions were released around March 19 or 20 in 2015 & 2016.
Thanks!
