Hi all My daughter an international student from India got her E mail just now-She got accepted and was awarded merit scholarship as well

so you should have probably gotten your email now nemo!

Ahhh! it sucks i have to wait for this snail mail to come.

Got my letter today, I live in South east mass. Congrats to everyone

So the letters already got mailed out? :o I live in Southern NH so mine might be here today. Ahhh. Nervous! Last time I was nervous about getting accepted somewhere, it was a rejection letter (not even deferral- I applied ED). But WPI is a LOT easier to get into, so I’m keeping my fingers crossed. Though, now it’s more the issue of money. Hopefully I’ll get a nice merit scholarship (I’m Valedictorian… at the moment at least, but it’s unlikely anyone will pass me.)

In comparison to what school mistydog003? WPI isnt one of those impossible schools to get into but its still pretty tough, I know being valedictorian does give you a nice scholarship at WPI

I got mine today and was accepted!

I’m from China and I got an email today morning saying that I was accepted. Does anyone know how much the scholarship values, $25k at most?

They’ll send a different email specifying how much youll be rewarded. you shouldnt have to guess :P

And congrats zr87012! ah, im still waiting.

Ahh… I got deferred to regular decision What now?

^ Not sure but i also got deferred :/

boooo. well, at least it wasnt a rejection.

I got accepted with a $20,000 scholarship. But if I don’t get any financial aid, it’s still too expensive because my parents won’t cosign on loans if they get that high (which their net price calculator said the scholarship is the only thing I’d get)

And the school I was talking about earlier was Bowdoin. Not really surprising that I got rejected, my High School is small and not all that great, and Bowdoin’s acceptance rate is 19%.

Does anyone have an opinion on how much debt is too much? If I’m going to try to convince my parents to cosign on more loans, I need a valid argument. =/ I’m probably going for Biochemistry/Biochemical Engineering or a related field, so my starting salary wouldn’t be too bad.

To those who got deferred, don’t be discouraged! I do not know anyone in admissions, but I’d have to guess they are being over selective due to the substantial increase in freshman enrollment over the last three years.

My best guess is they are tossing (maybe not the best word choice haha) all of the “weaker” candidates into the regular pool. Then they will gauge how many to admit from the regular pool by looking at how many of the EA1 and EA2 acceptances post a deposit compared to previous years. So just keep on checking your mailbox - good news will come!

mistydog003 -

Bowdoin and WPI are an interesting choice of schools to apply to! They are so vastly different, that I think someone who loved Bowdoin wouldn’t be happy at WPI and vice versa. Also, Bowdoin doesn’t have engineering at all. You shouldn’t feel bad about Bowdoin, the acceptance rate last year was 16.1%!!!
I think your parents are correct to be cautious about taking on too much debt for college. There have been lots of articles and documentaries on TV about this. And even with a in-demand degree, you don’t know what the economy will be like when you graduate.
Hopefully, you get into a bunch of schools and you can factor the financial aid packages into your decision.
Here’s an article with advice on how much borrowing is OK…
[How Much Money Should I Borrow for College? - US News and World Report](http://www.usnews.com/education/best-colleges/paying-for-college/articles/2009/06/09/how-much-money-should-i-borrow-for-college)

accepted with Presidential Scholarship

Thanks, BeanTownGirl. I liked Bowdoin a lot, because:
a) I want to go to college in Maine
b) I don’t really want to be in the city, and I loved Brunswick
c) I just liked the general feel of the college
d) They did have Biochemistry (the major I originally picked for the schools that had it)

I haven’t actually been to WPI, but that was also at the top of my list because they had so many Science majors. I’ve seen part of the campus from the highway, and it’s waaaay closer than Bowdoin was.

I feel bad, one of my friends got rejected. Don’t let deferral or rejection hurt you, everyone. Everyone will turn out as it should be, I’m sure. If they didn’t accept you, it’s the college’s loss, right?

Well said misty :)

I was accepted with a scholarship, but I wondered when WPI will send us the results of our aid eligibility. Does anyone know?

@nemo931102- I think in about 4 weeks thats what they have mentioned in the letter to my daughter

D accepted to Chem Eng with a Presidential Scholarship! One of her top choices!! Senioritis will be even worse now…
