I don’t think there is likely very much info out there tailored for preparing for WPI interviews specifically. Look at how to prepare for an MIT or Yale interview and a lot of that same advice will be applicable to your WPI interview.

If you are not strong at interviewing, I’d suggest not interviewing. The interview is not mandatory for admission. But if you choose to do it, be able to articulate your personal achievements, academic goals and why you think WPI would be a good fit for you.

Applications include academic data on classes, grades and test scores. Interviews should be used for you to:

Clarify who you are: What do you really like? What do you really enjoy doing? What do you hope to achieve in your
college experience?

Ask questions specific to that university/college as it relates to what you are looking for in your education. They love
to talk about themselves. Give them a chance to talk about how they fit you.

Do college specific research before the interview as it relates to directions your interest may take you. If you
have been honest with yourself and not rehearsed for a play the interview will go well. The interviewer will want to
help you. Most are pretty good people. If they don’t want to help you in your search for a future, I suggest you do
put them lower on your list.

In ten years of college admission work, I interviewed about 3,500 applicants on campus for over 45 minutes. Like

most good jobs, doing it well is demanding. Once I received a thank you note eight years after the interview from a
student who attended another university and had just attained his PhD in physics. We were passed over for an Ivy.
I count it as a successful interview although he selected another school.

Good luck!..but it is not luck!
