WPI Need-Blind?

Is WPI need-blind for admissions?

As an applicant you don’t care if a school is need aware or need blind. If you like the school, the NPC suggests it’s affordable, and it’s a good match for you, you should apply. Aware/blind just affects the chance of admission (up or down), and then usually only if you’re on the cusp.

As an applicant I definitely would care. I would want to be accepted based upon Merit and not finances. Once accepted I would want to be able to decide if I could afford it or not.

I originally withdrew my need-based financial aid application because I thought I would not get much financial aid, and because I thought it wouldn’t be necessary. However, I did not get much merit-based aid and the cost of WPI is pretty high for me right now. Is it worth reapplying for financial aid? And when would I be able to get my financial aid package?

I Agree with “vonlost.”

An important side of the ensuing admission discussion centers on exactly this point, who has better prospects among the competing applicants? Not applying for financial aid when you, in fact, need it is not a solution. To matriculate successfully, you need to afford the University. They spend a lot of money to meet demonstrated financial need. You might also consider a five year co-op option. WPI, MIT, Northeastern, RIT et al Universities offer it. WPI sees co-op as a financial aid vehicle.
