My portal was showing just the financial aid tab yesterday. Now today that is gone with just a little paragraph at the top about CSS and FAFSA. In addition to that, the application tab is back but showing “no application.” Freaking out a little bit, anyone else experiencing this?
just checked, still just says submitted. No other tabs other than application details
Mine also says “no application started”. I have no idea what this means.
I emailed admissions and asked they said an email will be coming later today to check the portal. Good Luck everyone!!
I see the application checklist on the portal today, but the financial aid checklist is gone. Looks like updates will be coming soon.
Portal again changed for me, finaid checklist is back and application is showing submitted. Best of luck to everyone!
Its out, and I just got waitlisted lmao rip
Son’s isn’t out yet, they must be releasing in batches.
@greenfrogmemes how did you see it? Did they send an email?
No. However, I was deferred EA so maybe my decision was released early due to that.
RD decision posted. No email.
Waitlisted RD. Kinda confused as to why.

May have to do with interest in the school - those are some above average stats, you should have gotten in no problem.
WPI looks specifically at leadership positions and extracurriculars, besides course rigor and the sort. I believe it was these, plus legacy and all the materials I submitted, that got me in EA1. No matter what it is, college admissions are always a toss-up…
@pjb900 I visited and toured last spring, thought that would have shown a lot of interest since WPI isn’t really close to Texas at all. Who knows though. Congrats on your acceptance!
@Hbs2018 Thank you! You could contact admissions or accept waitlist if you’re really interested in the school, if it’s your top. Some people have written letters to officers in hopes of overturning their admissions decision.
Regardless, best of luck going forward!
I guess it also isn’t a bad idea to post stats:
ACCEPTED EA1
-3.1 UW, 3.4 W (Upward trend, 3.9 W Senior year)
-1350 SAT (690 Math, 660 Reading)
-Took two dual enrollment classes over the course of two years
-Design Lead on School Robotics Team (FRC) for two years, member for four

-Had an admissions interview on-campus
-Went to Math Meet 2018
Accepted with Presidential and Global Scholarship!!
Waitlisted. Was accepted to MIT and Yale. Wanted to post to see if anyone had any insights, maybe they have just become more selective or are taking action to protect their yield rate?

35 ACT
4 APs, 5s on all taken so far (AP CS A and AP Calculus BC)
Strong ECs including: founder of a personal software company, FRC programming lead, MHS President, strong involvement in technology activities and have received several awards related to this (and would have received a WPI scholarship for being 1st in class)
I have visited campus as well and applied for FRC scholarship (not sure if they measure demonstrated interest)
@peachgiraffe
Given that WPI has been working hard to improve the women to men ratio, and your founding of a personal software company, I am also a little surprised. Please note, you appear to have some very popular choices! CONGRATULATIONS! I will try to clarify the confusion because it is a very valid question.
Many years ago the New England colleges used to meet at a New Hampshire resort to discuss common applicants. A student’s name would be read out and schools would raise their hands to indicate that student had applied to their respective school. Schools with the applicant in common would indicate if they were going to admit the student. A discussion would ensue and Bates might defer if Bowdoin said they would admit the common applicant. As a general rule, WPI might deffer to MIT. The Ivies had their own group meetings. To my knowledge, THIS PROCESS STOPPED YEARS AGO WHEN IT BECAME PUBLIC KNOWLEDGE, but it does raise the question, why did they do this in the first place? What was the motivation?
Three answers:
- It not only increased applicant yield, but it also greatly reduced the FA package workload. Admissions is a great deal more complicated than most applicants realize and schools are working on probabilities to stay within established budgets. It was easier on the schools and it was assumed that the applicants would matriculate at their favored college. If college number one was, in fact, going to admit, the backup school was in a better position to reduce the uncertainty surrounding its FA decisions. If the assumptions about the applicants choices were correct, it was a win-win solution.
- It is also known that a very positive student prospective improves the likelihood of greater student program success. It helps to be "psyched." Why not accept the students who are excited about their opportunity. This is why colleges want you to know and understand more about their respective schools. It may be that the common application has not been very helpful here. This process does make it easier for students to apply to many additional schools and enables schools to generate more revenue from application fees .
- No marriage partner wants to be the third choice! Many postings I read on CC demonstrate little college program awareness on the part of applicants. They have been led to believe that it is all about SAT/ACT scores. There is research to support the supposition that a principal determinate in college selection is the perceived status within the peer group of the applicants' parents. Some of these studies have also indicated that parents are not likely to admit to this when asked a direct question, but behavioral studies indicate otherwise. Many schools have spent many thousands of dollars on these studies.
FACEBOOK is not the only place where behavioral market studies have been employed. After all, universities have been teaching and developing these techniques for years.
You are clearly a winner! You should be “psyched.” Now get your PhD from MIT and come over to Worcester to help us out! We need help in big data to work on these obvious problems relating to our own behavior.
