I am Indian student and have received admits from wpi (robotics dept.) and stony brook(mechanical dept.) for masters. I am planning to do specialization in Robotics. I need advice on which university to select on basis of the course work, research opportunities, internship opportunities, job opportunities and obviously taking degree from which of these universities will be more valuable ?
Hello, I know about WPI but don’t know anything about Stony Brook. WPI is the only university in the USA that offers a PhD in Robotics - this is one of the areas in which it absolutely excels. I’m sure their masters is just as well-regarded as their PhD program. My son will be entering WPI in August as a freshman and we are very happy with WPI. We have also been told by many current WPI students when we visited that WPI is excellent about helping students find internships. I am sure they have excellent pathways to research as well. Hope this helps, good luck to you.
Thank you very much for replying. Someone please give some information about stony brook
You may want to post in the Stony Brook forum. I don’t think it is as highly regarded as WPI overall and certainly not in robotics.
Both are fine schools. SUNY Stony Brook is a stronger research school and has a stronger CS program. But WPI is a great school to study robotics, possibly better than Stony Brook in the practical side.
Companies such as iRobot and Boston Dynamics recruit at WPI, so if you are interested in a career as a roboticist in industry, WPI would be a stronger choice.
