<p>What matters is that your essay be personal, detailed, and revealing. Something so personal that only you could write it.</p>
<p>A common topic, treated in a personal and revealing manner, can still yield an excellent essay that distinguishes you from other applicants.</p>
<p>Don’t write something that a thousand other people can write, because they will. That doesn’t mean that you should avoid a topic that a thousand other people could write about.</p>
