Is it generally a bad idea to talk about something that happened in middle school when writing a personal statement for college? I want to talk about this program that I was in during 8th grade that paved the way for how I think and how I want to help people, and has basically stuck with me throughout high school.

If something was a turning point for you and you can write about how it shifted your world view or how it made you look at your life differently or how it directly influenced the person you are today and the college choices you will make, then absolutely…just be sure you can carry it through from event to continuing growth through HS to where you are now. (not just this was a special time)
