For many schools such as U of Chicago, they want you to write an optional essay about your favorite media (books, movies, magazines... etc)
what is an advice on how to write one w/o making it sound REALLY boring?

cuz you know..
"my favorite book is ... because... the characters..."
THATS SO BORING!!

can anybody help me with some ideas on how to make it fun and interesting?
and if anyone would be interested in posting their own. i would appreciate it soooo much!

oh.. and for people applying to U of Chicago this year.. which essay questions did you choose? they all seem so tricky... espeically the first one where you have to translate this quote:"At present you need to live the question." I MEAN come on.. what does dat mean...? (anybody feel free to help :D)

ooh, this is a good one! what type of media are you going to write about?

if it's a tv show, write about your favorite episode. tell what happened, and tell why you liked it. (but not like 'oh i liked this episode because it was sooo funny!!!' show why you liked it, how it affected you, how it made you feel, etc). this could probably apply to a movie or a book, too. write about your favorite scene in the book or the movie.

for chicago's favorite media thingy, I'm talking about why I like NPR (because chicago has a, create your own category, to write about your favorite thing).
i also have another school that wants one of these, but they don't give you the option like chicago D: so i don't know what i'm going to do with it.

i think imma write on one of my fav books/movies "the memoirs of a geisha" cuz for one college, i have to write about more than one different media, and since there is both movie and book out for this story, i think it would be easier...

I would be as honest about it as possible, I don't think that they are looking for something specific or a "right answer" they are looking into more insight into who you are and what you enjoy. Personally, I love history books, so I would probably write about one of the Henry VIII books that I love and talk about his wives and how their lives have both intrigued me and have inspired me.
