Writing college essay............need I say more?

<p>My son has been diagnosed with adhd and has very poor executive function. Difficulty turning assignments in on time etc. We have an iep, but only 1 teacher is compliant. He got a 29 ACT. So smart but his grades are not consistent. 3.36 with me harassing the teachers if my son has gotten his work in on time.
But what do you do to help with writing college ap essays? My son will probably need abou 5 and the first 2 drafts are awful. We've talked about writing an outline. Write topic sentences etc. He will write a stream of ideas. No organisation. It won't even be on topic. I'm horrified. His reading and English were over 30! And an 8 on ACT writing but he can't seem to get it together. Is this a product of his executive function?
We've tried being positive. We've tried no extra fun things until adequate time spent on essay resulting in a quality product to no avail. I need help. We have a good tutor who is positive and upbeat. Would that help? He is a music major and has to have all of his stuff done in a few weeks. I'm at a loss on what to do.</p>

<p>@cellomom6 is his apps due for because of the need to apply so he can audition? Are they (colleges) on the common App?
If they are he may want to focus on the supplements first; I know this sounds backwards but they are ALOT shorter and can be done with shorter focus time versus the one main large one. Many are the why me question… this may lead to helping him establish why college.
Writing is hard you may want to do free thoughts then pare down to one thought to expand on.<br>
My concerns I may have will be for next when papers are due…will he be able to meet deadlines without having the support of you there? </p>

<p>Yes. He needs to be done so he can schedule auditions. I’ve been looking at lac because of supposive academic suoport, but those programs are very challenging academically (not the problem but amount of work is for time management) and i would think unless highly focused on music may not work. So I’m trying to find conservatories within lac. Or a very focused music program. With little lac requirements.<br>
Thanks for the tip for working on the supplements. He’s doing that now and finally came up with a start of a decent outline which he is taking to his tutor tomorrow.
I brought up to him his need for independence on this issue and it was not received well. Obviously this is a maturity/anxiety issue as well. He does really well on project based classes. Any college suggestions to fit that?</p>

<p>Tutoring helped. He went prepared and his first draft looks decent. I hope it was a confidence thing and the more he writes he will do better. I do recommend that if your parental pressure isn’t producing results to then get a tutor.</p>
