Everytime I get an essay assignment or any huge writing piece, I just get stumed. Writing takes me a lot of time. I usually have the ideas but writing comes really hard to me. I have to struggle just to get a B+/A-.

Is there a format or certian tips you guys use for wiritng good essays? People tell me to read books but what else is there?

What sort of essay are you talking about? Research paper? Analytical thing for an English class?

Thesis. Outline. Sources/quotes/whatever you need to cite. The first two should be written down, not typed (it's been shown that it's better to write stuff down in the preliminary stages so that you can literally have it all in front of you). Then, and only then, should you start typing the essay itself.

My teacher told me that the thesis statement provides the structure for the whole essay, which is why it needs to be really tight and show specifically what you're going to write about and how you're going to go about proving your argument. It's also the hardest thing to write.

My advice is the same as above: outline the essay beforehand. It helps.
