In Erica meltzer’s book it states that the SAT will often incorrectly pair two singular nouns connected by and ( a structure known as a compound subject) with a singular verb.
Usual syntax : A park a and a lake (runs) along the Loup Canal.
Unusual syntax: Along the Loup canal (runs) a park and a lake.
Shouldn’t the verb be “run” because you have a plural subject?
looooooolllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll.
I remember reading that a few weeks ago and I was like whatttt???
But then after those two sentences, she says, “Note that in the second version, the error is much more difficult to hear” right under.
So yes you are correct that it should be “run”
It was confusing the way she wrote it because she never explicitly states the sentences are wrong.
