Writing MC Masters Needed

these questions from the May 2006 really stumped me anyone care to explain some of these?

Teh derelict old house A. [across from] the warehouses and the B. [even more] decrepit one C. [just beside] them D. [have been placed] on the list of historical landmarks.E.

Answer is E. I put C. isn’t it the more decrepit one just besides? since one is singular?

A. [There is] B.[probably no] story C. [more dramatic] D. [than baseball’s] great hitter and right fielder, hank Aaron. E.

Answer is D. I have no idea why

In the context, which of the following is the best way to combine sentences 6 and 7 reproduced below.

In royal palaces there were to be found many comforts that medieval castles did not offer. These had dark dungeons and damp, drafty living quarters instead.

B. Lacking many comforts compared to royal palaces, medieval castles instead offered dark dungeons and damp, drafty living quarters.

E. With their dark dungeons and damp, drafty living quarters, medieval castles offered few of the comforts to be found in royal palaces.

Answer is E. but I put B. what’s wrong with B and what’s better about E?

Thanks guys appreciate it good luck this saturday!

It is grammatically correct, they are the correct idioms.

It is D, should be "than that of baseball's", since it is referring to story not baseball.

B. is incorrect because u would need "compared to that of royal palaces" And E. is better because the adverb clause/phrase whatever it is infront of medieval castles is grammatically correct and correctly modifies medieval castles.

Sorry, i'm not really good at explaining things, but i hope you kind of get what i'm trying to say. Anyways GL!

I'm still confused
so if i say my house is beside your house its correct?
rather than my house is besides your house

ooh.. i get it now thank you

B. Lacking many comforts compared to royal palaces, medieval castles instead offered dark dungeons and damp, drafty living quarters.

The sentence needs that of?

Lacking many comforts compared to that of royal palaces, medieval castles instead offered dark dungeons and damp, drafty living quarters.

sounds wrong... compared to WHAT of royal palaces?

"besides" isn't a preposition. only "beside" is. one isn't the plural of the other--they're different words entirely.
