What is wrong? Why? And how do I correct it?

It should be:

“Mediators were standing by, prepared to intervene in the labor dispute even though both sides had refused earlier offers to assist.”

One makes a request for assistance and a offer to assist.

Actually, it’s “…offers of assistance.”

But i guess silverturtle’s version works if nothing in the sentence was underlined to correct for errors.

Yeah, “offers of assistance” is also an acceptable substitute.

next time when u post writing question underline the problems as it does in the writins ection so we can distinguish easier bud.
