Writing SAT Doubts

Got this from the PR 11 tests book

  1. Lashonda enjoyed her trip to Puerto Rico last summer (lust like she had on her visit in 1994).

A) - same as before
B) just like her 1994 visit
C) just as she had in 1994
D) just as she had enjoyed it in 1994
E) just like 1994

the answer is C , i chose D - shouldnt the phrase be in past perfect and hence have the form had + past participle?

  1. For many people , (being in good health is more important) than being rich and famous.

A) same as before
B) having good health is more important
C) there is more importance in being healthy
D) healthiness is more important
E) to have good health is more important

so the answer is A , i chose B - i get A should be the answer due to correct parallelism but doesnt the SAT strictly detests the use of “being” as a verb, and here it is used twice! this type of question will not appear on the test, will they?

  1. The camera obscura, a sixteenth century precursor of the modern camera, (produced a picture in much the same way that modern overhead projectors shows images).

A) the same as shown before
B) was able to produce a picture in much the same way that modern overhead projectors often show many images
C) produced a picture in exactly the same way that modern overhead projectors show images
D) produced a picture like the modern overhead projector show images
E) produced a picture in much the same way that a modern overhead projector shows an image

answer is E, please explain

  1. Confessions of violent crimes nationwide skyrocketed last year, ( but in some towns it) remained steady or decresed.

A) - the same
B) but in some towns they
C) although is some towns they would have
D) yet in some towns such confessions would have
E) but in some towns such confessions

Ok the answer is E but i chose B because verb is plural and is short and crisp, the book says that its E not B because “they” is ambiguous which could refer to either confessions or violent crimes, but its confessions of violent crimes the subject? i dont see any ambiguity, please help

Thanks for your time and help.

@marvin100 - go for it!

(C) is a permissable omission, but this is not the kind of thing tested on CB tests.

“Being” is usually not preferred, but you can’t change the second “being,” rendering the original “more parallel” than B. But this also isn’t how CB tests parallelism. Another woefully non-representative question.

(A) has an S-V error (projectors shows)
(B) stupidly wordy (but not at all in the way CB makes answers wordy)
(C) I expect PR wants this to be wrong because it “changes the meaning,” but it’s a totally BS answer choice. CB doesn’t do this.
(D) S-V error (projector show)

Technically “they” can be considered ambiguous, but again, the CB doesn’t test pronoun ambiguity this way.

Man, PR’s writing material is pretty bad.

hahaha
@marvin100 thats awesome how much did you score in SAT?

will this book do more harm than good? i have a decent amount of time so i think i will want to finish the book and retain the CB precious exams when i completely prepared.

so again the score i get here wont be accurate right?

bump

anyone else willing to give a shot? thanks

@marvin100 what is the tense in option C question 1 on lashonda? option D has past perfect right?
