I did the entire writing section in a practice book, answered every question and got 45/49 correct. With a fantastic essay, do you think that's an 800? Maybe 790?

No. It’s probably around a 730 or 740. I consistently get 6 questions wrong, yielding a score of anywhere from 690-720; there’s no way 4 questions wrong yields an 800 or 790.

Definitely not, well I also got 45 Qs right in my test with a 11 score essay, but I got just 710 in my writing.

With a 45/49 and a 12 essay, you’d have a score range of 730-800, according to the BB, therefore disproving stef1a’s assertion that “there’s no way 4 questions wrong yields an 800 or 790.” It’s definitely a possibility if the MC section is surprisingly hard. However, if you get 48/49, you can get practically the same score range with only an 8 on your essay (720-800). Trust me, a 48/49 + 8 essay is a LOT easier to do than a 45/49 + 12 essay.

Hmm, I kind of think it would be nice to get an 800 or a near 800 on the writing section. How do I brush up on the MC a bit more?

Not even close. I got 2 wrong and 8/12 essay and I got a 740

PMelillo: I think Silverturtle has a list of errors on his SAT success guide Basically, if you have a basic grasp of grammar and integrate that list into your practice, you should be getting 47+ everytime unless you’re very careless, in which case you’re on your own. I don’t wanna go into a lot of detail because I did so with CR and I ended up screwing my karma up (following practice CR was like… 700 or sth).

ading25: It’s very possible! 47 MC raw score + 8/12 essay is a 700-800 range.
