Writing scores

hey...does anyone know how the writing score is calculated...i know there are about 50 qeustions and 12 pts for essay..but how do you put them together and estimate a score? how much is the essay worth?

multiple choice - 70%
essay - 30%

yeah, I found out the hard way that the multiple choice was weighted so heavily. I got a 9 essay and finished with a 570 writing

is there a chart that tells wat score you get for a certain raw score? I've only seen those for the CR and math..

I'm not sure, but I'd assume quite little? I got an 80 raw score (missed 1) in the November test with a 10 essay and still got an 800.

Yeah, I also got an 80 raw score (none missed or omitted), with a 10 essay on the June 05 test and still got an 800.

so the essay isn't really worth 30% then...

Essay score * 2 + Grammar subscore = Raw score
Then they have the conversion
So the essay has a weight of:
24/(24+80) = 23% approximately
I may be wrong though.

does the essay score really matter for colleges this year?

I doubt it... what could they measure you against? I wonder about that too, though.

NYstudent: they might not look at what score you got, but some colleges do look at the essay you wrote for the writing portion (to see if your writing abilities do match your college essays, or something). I remember Pomona saying this when I went to their information session at my school.
