I am wondering, for those of you who go 70/80 questions, what your essay and final writing score were. I want to know how much my essay score impacted my final writing score. Thanks!!

for me
80 and a 10 essay = 800
I think there was someone on this board with 80 and an 8 essay who got 800

70/80 questions?...There were like, 45. You mean 70/80 scores, right? Essay is 30% of the score, I believe.

I got 71 on the grammar, 11 essay -> 740.

No, there were 49 questions.

73 MC 3 wrong
8 essay (W T F!!)

700 total.

As you can see, one or two writing questions matter a lot more than a solid essay. I'm definately glad that many colleges (including HYP) will just glance over the writing section.

where did you get that information haz? I really hope its true, I got 70 MC and 10 Essay for 710, but I have 800 CR and 800 M and don't want to take again for writing

73 mc + 9 essay = 720

Georgetown completely disregards the writing. Brown says it is compliling data for the new writing section to test its effectiveness. In short, the writing is too new and is structured differently from the SAT II Writing in order to be considered equal to the other two sections.

That being said, don't screw up on the writing section. A low writing score could send red flags to prospective colleges.

Ramsfan, your score is impressive even if the writing were to be weighted equally to the other two sections. Most colleges will consider that to be a 1600 and will nod at the writing. No need to retake.

thanks for the info haz

For what it's worth, I got 77 MC, 8 Essay -> 740 total

the MC is weighted TOO HEAVILY by FAR.
extinct gramatical rules, each question being around 20-30 pts is crazy.
i missed 5 for a 70, with a 11/12 essay = 730.

70MC, 12 Essay = 740. Me hates grammar...

When you say extinct grammatical rules, you really mean standard grammatical conventions, right?

80 mc, 8/12 essay = 790

I got a 77 score on the writing multiple choice, and an 8 on my essay. That gave me a total writing score of 740. I'm not sure exactly how many questions i answered right though. All i know is that essay tests suck.

People who got 700+ how did you guys prepare/ study?

70/80
10 essay
710...

I didn't study

Of course my writing score was my highest section. rolls eyes (Haha--just short of being 70-80 MC though)

IvyLeague99 -- I didn't study. (720)

wow some of your writing scores were brutal, I got a 68 mc 10 essay for a score of 700

Ivy, if I were you I'd study by looking at questions written by the CB for the new WMC. As with most of this stuff, repeated exposure to the sorts of things the CB is looking for will help you identify them in the future. I wouldn't necessarily study by learning "grammar." Grammar in real life (that you might learn from a teacher or from the latest edition of Strunk and White) and the grammar on the SAT are not always the same thing.
