I score from 740 to 770, and my problem is that I know the error, but I cannot explain why. Will this problem hinder my progress in Writing?

That’s crazybandit’s cue to jump in and say that you must know what an appositive is to know that the appositive must be in the same case as the noun it identifies.

If you can score 740-770, that’s pretty damn good. I’ve never came across a question that I knew contained an error because I couldn’t explain why. Back when I actually took the SATs, I was like “oh that’s wrong, you can’t have a plural verb with a singular noun,” but I didn’t know what the hell a cataphora was.

I guess it helps to know parts of speech and why something’s wrong so that you can spot similar errors later on, but I wouldn’t sweat it if you’re already in that range.
