Hi, I have been stuck at 650-700 for the multiple choice writing part for quite a while. Can anyone help me improve so that I can consistently score in the mid 700s? The ones that I am getting wrong are the hard lvl 5 questions. I have the ultimate guide to sat grammar book and have done all the practices and read through the entire book. Does anyone know what I should do?

What types of questions are you getting wrong (e.g. parallelism errors, idiomatic errors)?

A helpful thing to do is to break the sentence down into its components. Cross out irrelevant modifiers (adjectives, adverbs, etc) until it’s stripped to its core (subject, verb, etc). That helps you remove the distractors and focus on what the question is actually asking.

Maybe try practicing diagramming sentences? There are probably worksheets online for this, but doing that lets you see how words fit together in the context of the sentence.

Another thing is to just read a lot, especially academic papers. This isn’t going to be an overnight thing, but when you read a lot of those, the complex sentences used in scholarly articles tend to be incorporated into your style of writing, and they’ll feel more natural- you’ll be able to pick out what “sounds right” more effectively.
