Question: Is 'no one but a fool' grammatically correct for the SAT?

I said incorrect because I thought it should be No one other than a fool instead of but a fool because it sounded awkward. But I totally screwed up writing.

Does anyone remember the question 'Despite research in the diagnosis of heart disease and improved technology use in its treatment, coronary arteries is still blahblahblah.' Was the 'in its treatment' part wrong?

So Sec 10 Q 14 was incorrect (didn't make sense) with the "all but" part? Meaning the "The fact....is why" was the right answer?

Yes, joannerz-- "it" is an ambiguous pronoun.

"The fact is..." is not right I think because it was too wordy so I chose (A) which was "Because of..." on SEC10Q14.

candle...it was "its treatment", this only refers to "heart disease..its not ambiguous

Nah regurgitatingcow, I'm pretty sure that "it's" is ambiguous in this case because it could have referred to the nouns research or heart disease and perhaps even technology. I am 100% sure that the modifying pronoun has to be placed much closer to the noun it modified in order to avoid ambiguity. Sorry dude.:)

EDIT: Besides CB has to throw in at least a couple of these misplaced modifiers in the mix...and this was actually like the only one I noticed or maybe I forgot.

nah....in the setence the underlined thing is "its" instead of "it's".
do you think anything else other than a diesease could have "treatment"?

you could be treating a pokemon..

You can't assume that people know stuff when it comes to grammar regurgitatingcow...research and technology could have treatment if they are flawed or inoperative in the vague sense. You're mistaking grammar with English knowledge my friend.

EDIT: So footonthehill, how does it feel like to go to the same high school as Erick Liang, Eric Tsai, and originalricegirl???

heart disease or coronary arteries?

=unclear

evilasiandictator--

I think it was B. There was something wrong with A, but I don't remember what.

Oh snap, I put B too on that last Writing question too sorry.

lol, it feels okay. eric is a good friend of mine's. Speaking of which, i have to do a spanish project with him this week.

So there were 5 no errors, hm?

That's not a good sign XD

I chose the "noone but a fool" to be incorrect because it sound weird shouldn't it be noone except a fool?

I believe that "Nobody but a fool" is perfectly fine. 'But' can be used as a preposition. Here's a link:

Just think about it. Let's say you didn't want to get picked for something - you might say "Anyone but I."

what about the one with the baby and her thumb and forefinger? i chose that one cause i thought it should be WITH her thumb and forefinger, not BETWEEN. i wasnt sure.
