Writing Supplement Question - Identity

what is the question getting at? does this include any special financial circumstances?

"Application forms like this often require people to uncomfortably categorize their race, ethnicity, gender, or other identities by checking boxes. Is there anything about your (or your family’s) background that you would like us to know that is not addressed elsewhere in your application? If so, please elaborate."

Hello, Roderick!
The Common Application asks applicants about their gender, race, and religious preference. The text box (in Writing Questions) is an opportunity for applicants to elaborate on their answers to those questions. For example, an applicant may want to be specific about the ethnic or cultural heritage they identify with. It has nothing to do with financial aid. You are not required to answer the question.
