Did anyone do this and get accepted? Just curious.
I did this for most of my schools and have gotten into 2 of them so far, but that is just kind of how I write (once I get in a good writing flow and I get all my ideas I just like to keep writing). Keep in mind Im not one of the kids thats applying to all Ivies and such.
I did this for most of my schools. I applied to three schools EA and was accepted to two and deferred at the third. Most of my results don’t come back until March/ April though.
Two follow-ups: I wouldn’t recommend this. While I am confident in my writing ability I do think the few essays and supplements I spent greater time on were better. I think every kid should do multiple drafts of everything they intend to submit. I really would not advise thinking you can wait until the last moment. Second, remember the supplements might not be the reason why a student is rejected/accepted. They are only one factor among several considered. There is also GPA, SAT/ACT, EC’s, LoR’s, competitiveness of different majors, the general applicant pool, legacy status, and unfortunately also things like donations.
Yes, I did it for all of my schools (I’m a terrible procrastinator), and so far, I have gotten into all of the schools I applied early too ,and all of them loved my essays.
However, I would not recommend waiting til the last minute, especially if the school is one of your top choices. I’m still mad at myself for shooting myself in the foot for writing my UChicago supplements the day the app was due. My why UChicago essay could have been a whole lot better if I written it ahead of time and made many edit.
Long story short, depending on the kind of writer you are (and are able to produce quality essays under pressure), it is possible to wait last minute to do your essays and still be recommended. The most important thing about making your college app is that have conveyed yourself in the best way possible; therefore it is up to you to decide if you can do that without having to do multiple edits and people reading your essays.
