Hello all! I am a sophomore at UCI and had a question about the personal statement. Since USC, has a “why you want to transfer” section in the application, what do yall recommend we right about in the personal essay since the prompt is the same. I am having trouble making different essays on the same prompt! Also, I am looking to transfer into Philosophy, Law, and Politics major or Spanish. Do you know if choosing either-or of the previous majors as my first choice would impact my admission?
Thank you!
Hi Ricardop101,
While I cannot comment on which major will impact your USC admission, I can speak on the essay portion.
The point of a personal essay is to build a connection with the college admissions officers reading your work. Your objective is to provide an honest personal statement about who you are.
Describe what makes you unique: Do you like slam poetry? Do you love live-streaming video games? Are horses your passion? Explain how your interest fundamentally shapes your identity. What character trait is strengthened? How could this trait help you in your chosen course of study (customized for your desired major)? Make sure this essay introduces you as an individual who has interests, strengths, and weaknesses you can use to leverage the programs (again, here’s where you can customize the prompt to your major).
Remember, the essay is the best way to win admissions officers over with your personality!
Good luck!
