Is there anything wrong if my high school diploma doesn't have my "real" name. I always use a different name for school so that's what is on my diploma and in reality it includes my real name with my school name attached in front of it. Do I need to ask them to change it or anything? Also, I told UCLA to change my name from the "real" one to the one I usually use for school... was that a bad idea? Should I change it back?

Don’t you mean transcript? Anyways shouldn’t that just be your legal name? It’s probably best to just call and verify

Does not matter. The school uses Social Security number, birthdate, etc. to confirm your identity.

Not transcript (my transcript has my other name as well) but when I graduated and received my diploma, it has (my school name)(my real name) instead of just (my real name). Don’t med schools or anything else like that ask for high school diploma proof and it should have the “real name” on there. I think I asked a citizenship process guy and he said that my real name and the other name are NOT THE SAME and I can’t use it for legal stuff like my driver’s license and whatnot even though it’s just a name attached in front of my real name.

You SSN is probably the main thing to fall back on. Make sure the name on the diploma matches the one on the SSN and just keep going with that I suppose. A name change process is arduous but doable and I suggest you do that asap with whatever name you want to keep so you won’t run into this problem again.

Well the name on my diploma is not the same as the one on my SSN because you can basically say that the name on my diploma is entirely “fake” with the exception that it does include my real name. So does that mean I should change it… :P

i dont think you can get into med school now

Why would you give a fake name when these are official documents? That just seems dumb you should talk to UCLA/your highschool about what you can do about that asap.

Well since it included my real name, I (and my high school) thought it was okay since I use that name anyway for everything related to school. That was before I asked a representative from the citizenship thing. I mean as long as I change my name, everything is okay isn’t it?

Well if you’re going to do that you need to make sure you’re consistent. You also need to go back in your history and make sure everything is set straight: do you have a drivers license?; a bank account?; a library card?; a Barnes and Noble membership card?!?. All of these things need to be revised immediately after you change your name, probably not that last one specifically, but basically anything that’s related back to your identity and important.

i had similar situation, i emailed ucla administration and they told me they added the name i used during high school into my record, so all my AP score and highschool transcripts and such can all go on my account
