Then kids can choose what is appropriate when they reach that point.

So we put off the issue for two years if this still results in a less-than-diverse class. For what? Isn’t there a cost to those students who would have been in the honors classes that they aren’t being challenged sufficiently for those two years, and as a result, may fall behind (and perhaps even permanently) their peers at other schools, and not realize their full potentials?

No, I don’t think the teachers believe there will be the cost you’re assuming.

As I explained upthread, we went through this transition in our district between our two kids, both 99th percentile.

There was some initial concern but after the teachers explained it the parents were fine with it.

We ended up liking the new structure better and it opened up all sorts of other possibilities at the school. More kids in AP and pursuing the IBD meant more sections and subjects offered, for example.
