Hi! My daughter is starting WUSTL this fall (just a few weeks!!!). I have two quick questions - She will be living in Lien House. Where do they pick up their mail and packages? Is the mail center open 7 days a week? Does UTrucking actually put the packages you ship to them directly in the dorm rooms? Does someone need to be in the dorm room when they are delivered to accept them? Any other move-in day tips would be great too!
Thank you for your help!
There is a mail center on the South 40 but I’m not sure which building it is. My S is moving in on Aug. 21st as he is doing a pre-Orientation program and I know I read that the mail center will be open that day. I do not know if it is open 7 days a week on a regular basis but I bet the information is somewhere on the First Year Center webpage.
UTrucking delivers the boxes to the room but someone needs to be in the room to receive it. I think when you sign up, you give them a two hour block. When we did it with my D several years ago, the boxes were in her room when we arrived but I think that was because her roommate was already there and the door was open. You can call them for more information. My one move in day tip is to bring water with you. The campus does not have filled water bottles for sale anywhere on campus. The students very quickly get in the habit of carrying a reusable water bottle with them but if you show up as a visitor on a warm day and are not aware of this, it is frustrating that you can’t buy a filled water bottle. Other than that, WashU is very organized. There will be several people at your car on the 25th waiting to help you carry stuff upstairs. Good luck with move in and your D’s first year.
Thank you so much @PAO2008! The water bottle tip is a great one. I will try to remember that.Wishing your son good luck too!
@PAO2008 The South 40 mail room is in Hitzeman House, in the southeast corner of the South 40. Lien is in the northeast corner so it’s not too close relatively speaking, but it’s still only like a 3-4 minute walk.
@Monkeypanda I had my DH ask UTrucking when he dropped off our box the other day and they do bring the boxes to the dorm room. Someone must be there during the two hour delivery slot you selected when registering.
@RaVNzCRoFT Thanks. My D figured that out herself so I never saw the building with the mail room. My S will be in Umrath. Monkeypanda’s D will be in Lien. But things are all pretty close on the 40. The question is whether my S will ever remember to check his mail - probably only when I text him that I’ve sent something. LOL
It would be nice if the mail room would send them a text or email to let them know they have mail waiting for them! Hard to send surprise care packages if they don’t.
@Monkeypanda They do send an email for packages. In fact, something I shipped to my S from Amazon arrived this week and he got an email about it. I don’t think they do that for regular mail though.
@PAO2008 That’s correct, they send you an email for packages but not standard mail.
@Monkeypanda You do get a message from the mail room saying you have a package to pick up! Its very nice.
