WUSTL Supplemental Essay

I know they do not have a supplemental essay, but if you apply for FA, then do you have to write an essay?

My son is also applying there. As far as I know there is no essay associated with an application for financial aid. But if you want to apply for merit scholarships, there are some essays required for that.

@gclsports is correct. For need based FA, there is no essay. It’s the typical paperwork (FAFSA, etc.). For merit based scholarships, additional applications are required, and these applications are all essay based. If you look under the merit scholarships page on the WashU admissions webpage, you can read about the specific scholarships and their corresponding application processes.

do you guys know how competitive these scholarships are? @JemmaSimmons @gclsports

@kjake2000 I’m not sure how to quantify that. But given the caliber of applicants WashU attracts, the number of scholarship applicants, and the relatively few big money scholarships offered, I would say the competition is probably pretty stiff. Good luck!

@kjake2000 I’m a Langsdorf Scholar, which is the engineering scholarship. They told us they had over a thousand applicants this year, and they narrowed it down to ten who received the scholarship. I can’t speak for the other scholarships, but I would imagine the statistics would be similar.

thanks for the input @JemmaSimmons @gclsports
