WUSTL - worth the price?

I am choosing between Washu and UNC, two phenomenal schools. I am leaning toward UNC because although I do believe the academics and opportunities at a top private school like Washu, the 20k increase in price from an already great school detracts from its luster. (I like UNC's feel/sports/environment more anyway.) I am undecided about my major. Brutally honest thoughts from you current students? Thanks.

We really need to know more about you to tell you whether you would like it here. But honestly, if money is really going to be an issue (putting your parents into serious financial strain), then just go to UNC. You already said you like the environment of UNC better anyway, so it wouldn’t make sense to come here if you would be happier elsewhere for less money. This all goes double if you are planning on some sort of grad school.

I’m in the exact same situation!
Washu was beautiful and had amazing dorms, and I really enjoyed my visit there. Academically, it’s really great as well. But, UNC is offering me a lot of opportunities and the campus seemed a lot more lively and fun than Washu’s. I’m a bio major, probably pre-med, but might do math as a minor. Also, UNC gives a lot more credit for AP/IB classes, which is something I really appreciate. Any thoughts?

I love WashU, don’t get me wrong, but I would definitely not go into debt to come here. I was between UNC and WashU among other schools, and WashU and UNC both gave me amazing scholarships so I chose WashU, but if the packages are not equal then go with UNC. I loved it, but the atmospheres of the schools are different. And if you are pre-med you are looking at a lot more debt for medical school, don’t already dig yourself deep with undergrad.

Actually, both colleges have ended up costing the same for me, oddly enough. Could you explain more about the atmosphere differences, as an actual student there? I noticed that during my visits, but I was hoping that I just visited washu at a bad time. Is it always pretty quiet and empty-looking?
I can’t decide if I want to go to a big/small school. My high school’s really small, and I hate that about it, but the attention I’ll get at washu is worth it (imo)

wash u is not worth it.

thanks for the valuable input, chelsearox! I see Penn is clearly accepting students nowadays who demonstrate analytical and critical thinking skills and proffer arguments supported by logic and reason.

I was just being concise.
What I meant to say is that if money is an issue for you and you got into WashU and UNC then Wash U is not worth it.

I’m sorry for not elaborating.

Don’t go to UNC…seriously

Wash U is an expensive school, but for the cost you get an outstanding standard of living, smaller university size, highly renowned programs, and an impressive name in the right circles. I have no regrets c:
