Is WUSTL a target, semi-target, or non-target for i-banking? I've been reading different views on this.

My opinion? Somewhere between semi-target (simply by virtue of the fact that there are banks that DO recruit on campus) and non-target. I’d would reccomend the other top midwestern schools (Notre Dame, Michigan, UChicago, Northwestern) over WUSTL if IBD is the goal.

WUSTL is a great school, and Olin offers a solid business/finance program. Unfortunately, St. Louis is a pretty undesirable location, and WUSTL does not have a very recognizable name brand.

^^ what are you talking about??? Is New Haven a desirable location? What does location has to do with recruiting? Recruiting is all about firms identifying colleges that they feel have the most desirable candidates. they generally look at college ranking, scores and gpa of incoming students as well as historically desirable colleges. Then they look at the strengths of the college programs. In general for anyone who asks if a school is a target, semi, etc- look at their placement office website. If its not available to the general public then call them. Do not rely on 16 y,ear olds on CC.

New Haven is one hour away from NYC which makes it far cheaper for banks to recruit at (this is a serious concern, especially with talent v. cost tradeoffs). Also, it’s about 20 minutes away from a ton of hedge funds (Greenwich, Stamford, Westport, etc)

Lol what does location have to with anything? Are you kidding me? You don’t think Stern benefits slightly from being a 30 minute train ride from Goldman Sachs? Seriously.

Location is ONE factor in OCR, believe it or not. Firms are going to prefer recruiting at geographically closer schools simply out of convenience. St. Louis is not really all that close to Chicago. entity already did a solid job proving how stupid your other point was.

While location isn’t the only factor, a school like WUSTL simply doesn’t have the recognition or finance alumni base as Michigan Ross.

WUSTL is a fantastic school, and if you network hard enough I’m sure you can get opportunities. It’s just not ideal.

And really OP, don’t listen to 16 year olds on CC tell you how location doesn’t matter.

Two of your statements on one thread.
Banks identify schools where they want to recruit, and will go there no matter the distance/cost. So if they have identified a school as their target, it can be in Timbuctu. And quite frankly after the Ivies and some of the other usual suspects, its all about direct personal connections in todays environment.
I see that you are a life long (or at least from high school on) New Yorker, as am I, albeit with 30 more years of life and Wall St. experience. We tend to be very parochial when it comes to being centrally located. That mindset is a liability.
