WUStL is a private school located in St. Louis, Missouri.

The university's original name at the time of foundation was "Eliot Seminary." The name was a tribute to St. Louis minister/teacher William Greenleaf Eliot. Eliot, however, was not in favor of the name, and in 1854, the Board of Trustees recommended changing the name to "Washington Institute in St. Louis." In 1857, the name was modified to simply "Washington University." Often confused with the other 17 institutions sharing the Washington name in their titles, the university again changed its name in 1976, adding the "in St. Louis" suffix to distinguish it.

It is just the one school. And is in arguably one of the BEST parts of St. Louis, right by Clayton (business district), Forest Park (huge public park with golf course, science center, zoo, etc.), University City, and the Central West End (upscale restaurant and shopping district). Very nice suburban campus with great landscaping.

I love you Wash U- it was one of my top choices when i was applying, and the people who know it rave about it. In fact, Newsweek did a rav on it last year, so you might wanna flip through some archives. Yeah, st.louis isn't the best place in the world crime-wise, and i have no idea if Nelly actually originated there, but the campus itself is beautiful and the college is in its own little bubble of intellectual happiness. Its a hidden treasure among colleges, albeit a pricy one.

Wustl is a closed in campus you could say. Youre close to downtown, yet still get a campus feel. I'd tell you more about it, but I feel kcirsch did a really nice job describing the campus and surrounding area. If you do have any other questions about Wustl, your more then welcome to PM me.

Also called Wash U by a lot of students. Although it's always fun to hear someone pronounce "wustl" phonetically (woo-stol). ;o)

I spent a year at Wash U, and like a lot of other students, I definitely had my share of having to explain to people "Yes, Washington University. No, it's not in Seattle. No, it's not in D.C. It's in St. Louis". There is a facebook group that jokes about this, I seem to recall.

And no, it's not ghetto at all. It's actually in the city of Clayton which is right on the edge of St. Louis. Suburban/urban neighborhoods, college-town-like atmosphere in areas like The Loop.

And it is private, not a state school (and thus the great expense... lol)
