Which would you choose out of the two?

and why....

WVU is more prestigious and higher ranking, but its a lot bigger as well. Marshall is a lot smaller and more "personal". I liked the movie, "We are Marshall!" and remember the tragic events very clearly that gave way to the movie. It changed Marshall, Huntington, and the NCAA forever. By the way, an interesting factoid (you may already know), when Marshall was devastated by the tragedy, WVU stepped up to help them and sent some players down to give the new coach some film to help them get back on their feet and prepare for the season. The coach of WVU at that time, the man who did "the right thing" was Bobby Bowden, who has been at Florida State for over 32 years since leaving WVU.

It really comes down to you. Where do you feel the most comfortable and get the biggest buzz when you walk on campus. Or a particular program that interests you.

Thanks for the reply.

I know both schools are pretty easy to get into and i have family in WV so i was checking them out.

WVU has a huge rep as a party school, i was wondering are the academics brought down because of that? I've actually heard good thing about it in regards of academics, a nice library, ect.

And thanks for the cool info on the whole wvu giving marshall players scenario, i actually didn't know that. Cool little history lesson = D

Oh and i'm not sure of the major i'm choosing as of yet, sorry.

My pleasure. Go see the movie...rent it at your favorite movie rental store or service. It is WORTH the money. Bring a box of tissue.....its a real heart jerker. I saw it in the movie theatre when it came out. (the day after a rather well known football coach took his entire team to see it....because HE had been impacted by the events as well...he was headed to Marshall to play when the tragedy hit....) and I heard a lot of sniffles in the theatre....mostly ADULTS....and when it ended, people sat there stunned....and quiet for at least 5 minutes before quietly ushering out of the theatre. I wasnt involved in the tragedy...I was in high school..but I remember it vividly....and the impact it had on us.....and the "scandal" it caused because of the NCAA rulings.....go see the movie.

I dont think partying really affects the quality of education at any school. That sounds a bit odd. Partying affects the student body, but not the faculty. That being said, I avoid party schools generally. WVU is no worse than other state schools, I dont think. But you will have to decide for yourself and visit BOTH campuses.

I respect both of them.

Will do thanks again for the advice and opinion.

Bump for more feedback = D

If you're interested in Marshall at all, check out the Yeager Scholars. It's an amazing opportunity.

will do, bump need opinions

You may not get a lot of opinions here about Marshall. This site tends to focus upon kids with very high stats who are primarily interested in the top tier schools and Ivy League. I dont see many inquiries about most West Virginia schools. But dont fret, because this site is just a small percentage of who is looking at schools.

Also, Bellarmine University in Louisville, Kentucky is also a good school you should consider.

WVU no contest! I am very biased though. WVU isn't nearly as bad of a school as many make it out to be. It has some top programs in the country. Yeah it's a party school and all but it's a good choice to further your education.

There was a football player at my high school that failed a grade, missed a season's worth of eligibility and graduated with a GED rather than a diploma. He got an athletic scholarship to West Virginia.
This was rather recent when the trend has been to reduce exceptions to star athletes (see Maryland, Syracuse, Vanderbilt's trials in recruitment/retainment)

I did a tour of Marshall with my D a few months ago, and she liked it. I'm concerned about employment resources after graduation, since it seemed very quiet/out-of-the way to me. We were there on a rainy Friday afternoon, which probably didn't help. I suggest a visit to see if you think it might be a good fit. The cost was certainly great, and D decided to keep it on her list.

I also did a drive-through of WVU with another kid who was attending a high school athletic competition there. I was concerned about the campus. Not only did it look like the freshman dorm towers were far from classroom buildings (I could imagine kids not making the trip to class), but the rental houses surrounding the campus were ramshackle and on the day we drove through, there were beer cans, broken furniture, and trash everywhere -- it looked like the "night after" a huge party. The athletic complexes were great. I've heard that there's a serious effort to improve WVA's academics. We did see the huge medical complex at WVU, which might be a very attractive draw for students interested in medical fields. WVU also has professional schools like pharmacy and law, so it clearly offers great options for WVA residents.

Thanks for the replies seems like everyone who's not biased has said they're pretty close in comparison.

I've heard the campus at WVU is very spread out though from a few people now, so i'll have to go check it out.

dang i have no idea what you guys are talking about... i thought op was talking about marshall business school

nope, just the schools in general.
