yahoo! HS wants all college mailings!

I just called the public HS in our area & the GC there welcomes all the college materials my son doesn't want, so I can FINALLY get it all out of our living room! I have spent the morning removing my son's name & mailing address from the materials & will deliver the two boxes full of "stuff" to the school later today.
They are also interested in getting all the magazines too--Time, Newsweek & US News & World Reports (tho they admit they will probably have students cut them up for collages rather than read them :( .)
Just glad to know that the trees won't have died in vain -- perhaps some other student is interested in some of these schools who blitzed my son with mail.

lol. I've been bombarded w/ promotional materials over the past few years, and while I've tossed a bunch, I've mstill managed to hold onto about 65 pounds' worth of viewbooks and such -- over half of my total bodyweight!

Would your HS like a couple of extra shopping bags full from the East Coast ?LOL

I think it's great when we can find places that want these materials to share with kids who don't get them, so they may think of options they hadn't considered. In any case, I sure am glad the materials are out of my living room & I found a welcome spot to donate them. I would be surprised if you couldn't find a place which would welcome your donations as well--think public high schools in less affluent areas, perhaps.

I'd love to have any viewbooks that you wouldn't like to hold onto (not for me, but for a program for middle schoolers). If you're in the Bay Area or the East Bay (or just willing to mail some of the stuff over here), PM me, and I'd love to get my hands on that stuff.

Why not approach local HSs in your area & ask them to have their students donate their unneeded materials? I'm sure you'll get a tremendous response, as they should have narrowed the schools they're interested in by now & would be happy to find a place to donate the rest.
It would be great for middle schoolers to peruse & start their dreams. It would also be good for them to analyze & think about how the info in the mailings affects them here & now (course selection, career choices, different types of schools, sizes, etc.)
