Yale 2021 Applicants

@Itisatruth there probably is correlation because good applicants will be wanted at multiple schools. However, the process is not really merit based (as we all know) so there will be a good amount of randomness

As I understand it, yale nus wants to make a supportive creative environment and they value personality more than test scores. that’s why their interview is such a big deal and they seriously take it into consideration.

Sad! I got rejected. I must admit that I am very disappointed. I did apply through common app by checking the box on my Yale application. Sent in my test scores, did FA, got shortlisted for an interview. I wish I could go, even though it’s far from my home, but I’ll be okay. I just hope fate leads me to a college that fits me!

Feeling very scared for the 30th. So far I only got accepted into my two safeties, while rejected at two (Amherst, Middlebury) and waitlisted at another two (Haverford, and the only school I liked as much as Yale–Williams). Needless to say, I don’t have a lot of confidence left for the “single digit” schools (Yale/Princeton/Columbia) (and Tufts, which comes out most likely on the same day).

Anyone else in a similar place?

Hey, @Seniors.yikes.us - sorry to hear that things haven’t gone the way you wanted them to so far. About 586,000 other high school seniors are in a similar place to you headed into Ivy Day. Hopefully your safeties were not “only safeties” but schools you were truly excited about and would be happy to attend. If March 30th doesn’t bring great news, you could think hard about attending one of your safeties, or taking a Gap year. No harm, no foul there!

FYI - I’m a parent, not a high school senior, and it pains me to see all the talented and ambitious students fall prey to several faulty assumptions (I’m not saying you’ve bought into these, @Seniors.yikes.us, but generally I see a lot of this across CC):

  1. There is only one school for me. (Myth).
  2. I will only succeed, make my parent and teachers proud, be happy, if I go to a top-ranked/highly selective school. (Myth). 3.Working really hard in high school, getting great grades and scores and having amazing accomplishments and ECs automatically earns me a spot a top-ranked/high selective school. (Myth).
  3. Rankings and admit rates and reputations are important. (Myth).
  4. Taking a Gap Year is only for failures. (Myth).
  5. It's impossible to apply to colleges during a Gap Year when you have no support from your high school, (Myth).

I am sending you good thoughts for Tufts + Ivies next week, and also wishing you some ease, fun, self-reflection, resilience, confidence, and contentment with who you are, your great accomplishments in high school, and the path you are sure to head down (and for the record, that all sounds way more crunchy and Zen than I really am). In five years you will look back and laugh really really hard at what you thought you knew and what you thought was important. I’m sure of it.

@Itisatruth thank you ^^ Only one of those really hits me hard (Number 2) no matter how I try to push off the doubts. Nonetheless, here’s hoping side eyes Yale

Is everyone able to view their application portals right now?

Yes i can see my portal

Does pretty much everyone get a interview request

@nillupa no, I didn’t

The portal still says only for admitted students

@USUG21 @ILoveStanford My portal still says “only for admitted students”. Maybe that’s a good sign for both of you (and probably a bad sign for me haha).

Where are you guys seeing “only for admitted students”?

I think they’re talking about the normal applicant portal, not the admitted students one.

I can get into my portal just fine? The normal applicant one…I don’t know my decision I didn’t get a likely letter but I can still get in to the portal and I don’t see anything that says “for admitted students only”

ok never mind, I can’t get into the admitted portal either I was using the wrong link

To all the applicants here, try to relax and think about stuff other than college admissions. Decisions are going to be released in about 5 days, so trying to gauge your chances or attempting to login to different portals is futile and is just going to make even you more anxious. Likely letters are given to just a small proportion (less than 10%) of successful applicants for a variety of different reasons, so not receiving one is definitely the norm even among future admits.

All of you are probably well-qualified students, and I’m sure you’ll probably end up at a great college and do just fine, regardless of whether that college is named Yale or not.

Wait, is there two separate portals for Yale? I was looking through the thread and researched an there seems to be an “application status” portal and an “ELI” portal. Yale admissions hasn’t emailed me anything about the latter. Does everybody else have a link/credentials for the EIi portal?

@Axlevision22 these two r same portals. Type ELI portal yale in gogle and it ll redirect it to ur portal.

@USUG21 ahh, ok thank you! I think I’ve seen others have a separate Eli portal from their admissions status portal but I’ll take your word for it. In that case, I still can log into my portal just fine.
