Alas, non-academic electives don't always bring up GPAs. Taking band and orchestra has actaully brought down my gpa, because it gets averaged in with my weighted classes. I'm pushing for my school to change that in the future, because it's an incentive for people to quit our music program.

Do they calculate the classes you took in community college into your GPA? I took two French classes at a community college last year due to scheduling conflicts. However, it does not show on my transcript. SO if you took out AP art and not count the french classes, I'd end up with only 4 academic classes my junior year!

rhapsody, you're right. I could have a 4.8 the first sem of my senior year. BUT I had to take religion, art, choir, computer science. That brought my GPA down to a 4.4.

"it's an incentive for people to quit our music program."

If they quit for that simple reason, they probably have no love for music. I take art and choir at whatever cost it brings down my class rank.

Again, I'm talking about a 3.6 unweighted GPA. They will include college courses in your GPA.

I hope it's not too late to send my college transcript...

If I knew they would include college courses in my GPA, I'd take more.

I agree that people who quit music because of grades probably aren't the most musically inclined, passionate people in the world, but in the case of a lot of the top students at my school their parents pressured them into dropping out. And plus, sometimes people have to be exposed to music for a long time in order for them to love it. The way things work now, there isn't a chance for music to work its magic.
