Yale and Brown

Hi Everyone,
Since the beginning of this whole process, I've alternated between Brown and Yale as my favorite schools. I'm now at the very, very lucky position where I have to choose between the two. I'm leaning a lot towards Yale, but I worry I might be doing so for some of the wrong reasons -- at the urging of those around me who give undue weight to prestige. I haven't spent much time at Yale with students, but I did really love it. Having lived some of my life in Providence, however, I really love Brown's laid-back culture and diversity of ideas and fear that I'm selling out.
Thoughts?
Thanks so much!

It’s tough to say with little info. But, try something new. Why stay in providence, even if you liked it?

They’re both great schools, to be honest, so it comes down to personal preference. Maybe re-visit both schools and decide where you can see yourself happy for four years?

I’m making the exact same decision…what are you interested in studying?

The two schools are similar in quite a few ways. I think Yale has the edge in most categories, but if Brown is better in a particular major, or if you just like it a lot better, it’s entirely sensible to choose Brown over Yale.

A significant distinction is the housing system. Residential colleges at Yale, dorms and lots of off-campus options for upperclassmen at Brown. The surrounding neighborhood areas at the two schools are also very different. If academics are a tossup, maybe these factors can help distinguish.

go to brown . . . i wish my daughter had gone to brown instead of yale . . .

@bugsliberty: Please TELL US why you and your child hated Yale so much. I can tell you exactly why my son loves Yale and why my daughter hates Harvard . . . so, please enlighten us as to why your family has been unhappy!

@bugsliberty: Are you trolling this blog? You same the same thing in every thread “Yale is no good. I didn’t like it. My child does not like it. Go some where else.” It’s time to say something credible on your next post.

FWIW: Going back through Bugs’ history, her daughter seems to have made an unwise financial decision to attend Yale and turned down a full scholarship at Wake. <a href=“Yale vs Duke Robertson - #18 by bugsliberty - Yale University - College Confidential Forums”>Yale vs Duke Robertson - #18 by bugsliberty - Yale University - College Confidential Forums;

For the record, every college is full of rich kids who can afford to pay the full sticker price. My kids, however, are not among them, as both are on mega-financial aid that brings the cost of attendance down to below what we would have paid to our flagship state school. If we had the richness of choices that bugs’ daughter had, my kid would be at Wake – and I think that’s the regret that is leading to Bugs’ bad mouthing of the school.

@bugsliberty‌ I’m curious to hear why. I’m almost chose Brown and am still somewhat in love with the school.
