Like Philo said, once you pass a benchmark - which I’m sure the majority of applicants do - the people who get in are just really, really lucky. Yale accepts 7.7% of people - do you really think the next 7.7% are sensibly weaker? Not at all! I can’t find it right now, but the Harvard Dean of Admissions (I thiiink) was quoted saying that he could throw all the applications on the quad, blindly pick out as many as needed to constitute the freshman class and there’d very little difference in its quality.

i just got contacted for an interview today O.O

@shinee9 I have mine this evening :O

@coltaylo no I didn’t which worries me a little because I submitted mine pretty early…do people get accepted that didn’t have an interview?

Good luck @nawtsocliche and @shinee9

Thanks lemming101!

@lucya01995 i didn’t get called for an interview either and i submitted my app about 2 weeks early.

@lucya01995 I believe so! They explicitly say that if an interview isn’t available in your area, it won’t be held against you. I’d imagine that not all applicants in more competitive areas get an interview, and I’m sure some of those admitted didn’t have an interview. I turned in my application fairly early, as well, so I’m just glad I live so close to W&M to get an interview. I wouldn’t be that concerned, if I were you! No worries!

i just called admissions and they said all decisions have been made. now for the wait

^ So this is happening. I wish they would just release them tomorrow…Why wait until Friday?

^ so they can watch us squirm some more. oh, those evil, evil adcoms.

@alocik in canada i’m doing queen’s and mcgill, both for commerce

@eeyore i do agree that the quality of accepted applicants overall would be higher, but i think that of the 7.7% accepted, it’s 1 or 2% who are truly spectacular…i know a few people who fit this description who have gotten into yale and everywhere else they’ve applied including likelies to these places without being an athlete

good luck to everyone with an interview today! i’m surprised these are still happening, thought reports were due on the 1st…also if the decisions are already made according to @somesmores why are people still doing interviews? :S

canadian2013 - i don’t know. i called to confirm that they got a supplement letter (since the eli account doesn’t show the supplement rec status) and they said the decisions have been made. maybe the interview is for applicants who are really on the edge?

Yale really stressed how the interview is a chance for the applicant to know more about Yale instead of it being a huge part of the application process so they’re probably just giving them for our benefit I guess

Maybe… interviews now are for those who got deferred and didn’t get the chance to interview earlier…?

@twentyseventeen ohhh that would actually make a lot of sense since people who applied regular already are also getting interviews now

I wish there were a Yale SCEA Handbook or something

Orrr maybe they’re for people who are accepted to convince them to go to yale :p

I’ve heard that sometimes they do “interviews” with really strong applicants and just spend all of it telling them about how great the school is…might be just a rumour though

@redboldx that would be so helpful haha

Good luck @shinee9 and @notsocliche! BTW shinee9, I love your name xD

Damn. Somewhere in New Haven there is a file with my name one it… and it’s in a pile that says “Accepted” “Deferred” or “Rejected” … scary thought
