Hey, I’m from Singapore and Im applying SCEA too. Nice to know all of you! It’s our dream to meet each other in New Haven next Fall!

Some girl in my grade claims she got into Yale already through Rolling Admissions, but I’m not buying it. Anyone else hear anything about this?

No such thing as rolling admissions at Y.

Likely letters do come out, mainly for recruited athletes but also for academics, but it seems pretty early and no one has posted about them yet.

So I’m really into photography, but I don’t take any classes. I submitted several photos to the fair, and one won first place in its category and out of all the other color photos in my age group. Should I submit some of my photos to Yale?

Also, I’m absolutely in love with Yale, but I think I want to go into journalism (however, one can never be completely sure). What do you think about getting a liberal arts degree over a journalism degree? Should I focus more on schools with highly ranked journalism programs such as UNC, Mizzou, Northwestern, and UGA?

You could submit your photos if they are highly professional and jaw-dropping. It depends the unspecified fair you took part in - how competitive is it? what scale? prestige? etc

No one can answer your “liberal arts or journalism degree” for you, especially with such little information. Questions you should ask yourself include: what do you see yourself doing in the future? What matters to you? What do you really want to get from going to university? etc

Anyone else having trouble with the “Why Yale?” piece? The 500char limit is soooo restricting.

Yep, Litotes the key I found there is writing something, then spending a couple hours just pairing it down, slowly cutting out unnecessary words while maintaining the same meaning. It was difficult.

Yes, so tempted to reply with “Why not Yale?” haha

The Why Yale question was surprisingly easy for me to write.

Not applying to Yale EA, but was reading this thread… best of luck, everyone!

Entomom, I know for sure that some Ivy athletic recruits (including recruits to Harvard) have already been officially “accepted.” I haven’t heard of likely letters either, though. Just thought I’d add to the knowledge pool!

I think mine will center around Experimental Philosophy.

Likely letter response
[?Likely letters? part of Yale?s admit strategy | Yale Daily News](http://www.yaledailynews.com/news/2007/apr/26/likely-letters-part-of-yales-admit-strategy/)

and I’m applying but not expecting to get in :)

Good luck guys! :D

So excited for next year eeeee. Going to be a senior~ x)

Can anyone help clarify single choice early action for me/make sure I’m not breaking the rules?

So, I’ve been accepted to IU (rolling admission). I submitted/will submit UNC Chapel Hill and UVA for early action. I’m planning to submit to Rochester for “Priority Review” - a non binding date between ED and RD where you get full scholarship consideration/they tell you sooner. Could I still do Yale early as well?

If you already submitted to UNC and UVA as “early action” then you can’t for Yale because Yale only lets you do their early action and no one else’s

That’s not true. You can apply to any public’s “non binding” admission.

Applying to Other Colleges and Universities

If you are a Single-Choice Early Action applicant to Yale, you may apply to another institution’s early admission program as follows:

You may apply to any college’s non-binding rolling admission program.
You may apply to any public institution at any time provided that admission is non-binding.
You may apply to another college’s Early Decision II program, but only if the notification of admission occurs after January 1. If you are admitted through another college’s Early Decision II binding program, you must withdraw your application from Yale.
You may apply to any institution outside of the United States at any time.

Yeah, I’m pretty sure I’m good with UVA, IU, and Chapel Hill, since they’re public. Rochester is the one I’m not sure about… They’re private and have ED, Priority Review, and RD. Priority Review means submitting by December 1 and notification by January 15. It sounds like ED II, but without the binding aspect, so I’m not sure how to treat it. I suppose I could just email Yale Admissions.

Hi guys, I’m not sure whether to apply early to Yale or not. I’m still struggling with some of the essays plus taking the ACT on 27th and SAT sub tests on Nov 3rd so really stressed out right now. Just curious, how long did it take you guys to finish your essays to the point that you wouldn’t change a thing? I keep changing mine almost daily.

From start to finish, my common app essay took me a week.

Though I’ll make a few small changes occasionally.

After researching a lot and illegally downloading several books about Early Admissions, I’ve finalized my decision.

I’ll SCEA to Yale and see how that goes.

Yale’s a great place. Good luck to all on cc SCEA-ing :)
